TN272: Avoiding burnout in your mission driven business – with Amanda Bates

Mental health and mental wellbeing are just as important as your physical and business health. Despite this, many entrepreneurs still struggle with burnout.

As Amanda Bates discusses this week, proactively watching what’s happening to your mental health is vital to avoid substantial disruption to your business. With examples from her own journey, she explains why managing your mental health can be the difference between an enjoyable, short, planned breaks and unexpected time off due to persistent physical illness.

If this was the last thing on earth that I had to do, what could I do for another five years and still be excited about it?

In this episode, Amanda also shares when it’s best to reach out for support and from whom and offers ideas as to how failure helps your mental health long-term.

As a third culture kid Amanda’s interest in navigating cross-cultural spaces and identity started young. Her American born, African-raised perspective continues to influence her as she leads the creative direction of The Black Expat, a multimedia platform dedicated to changing the narrative on Black international mobility. She also hosts the Global Chatter podcast which takes a humorous deep dive into these conversations from underrepresented perspectives. When Amanda’s not talking the mobile life, she is a student affairs professional at North Carolina State University and a career counselor, with her brand, Bates At Work.
